The evening sky in Santa Cruz, California was Miya Ando’s inspiration for this artwork. She often employs the image of clouds in her work to interrogate the notion of temporality. For Ando, a practicing Buddhist, this imagery expresses the principle that the fundamental nature of reality is that all constituent forms that make up the universe are ephemeral. By embedding cloud imagery into a reflective aluminum surface, Ando establishes an interconnection between the artwork, the viewer, and our personal relationship with time.
