Cilindro Costruito 1983

Arnaldo Pomodoro first trained as an architect and was also a jewelry designer prior to becoming a sculptor. Cilindro Costruito (Constructed Cylinder) is a sixteen-foot tall columnar form with an erratic vertical fissure, frozen in the process of eroding, that runs the length of the sculpture. The exposed area reveals a complex, multi-faceted interiority that contrasts with the highly polished, smooth surface.
