"I hope that my photographs will inspire people to do what they can to make sure the world's reefs are kept safe for future generations."

Greg Rothschild: Clownfish, Tangs, and Wrasses

Greg Rothschild, a self-taught professional photographer, has photographed marine fish since 1997. Rothschild uses the camera to illustrate to others how the natural world is beautiful, magical, and full of surprises. He believes the camera captures fleeting memories and provides an opportunity to discern many details that might otherwise be overlooked. Rothschild's passion for photography parallels his passion for reef keeping, a hobby of marine aquarists who carefully maintain reef tanks. These complex, enclosed ecosystems require high water quality to keep sensitive reef organisms and tropical fish alive and thriving. Rothschild's primary artistic influence is wildlife photographer John Shaw. He admires and emulates Shaw's straightforward focus on technical perfection, which is extremely difficult to accomplish in the field when water, low lighting, and moving fish are involved. Rothschild is determined to create clear and effective images that capture each animal's particular personality. Clownfish, Tangs, and Wrasses presents remarkable photographs from a world rarely seen.
